The theme of this year’s Urban Design Festival
is “creating better city life through design”, offering a platform for
designers, scholars, planners and ordinary city dwellers to share and explore
ideas that can bring a highly connected and vibrant city life to people.
Urban China magazine is the prime content
creator of the festival, providing the event with knowledge- and media-wise
support. The festival features a thematic forum and a design campaign,
exploring issues and possibilities in the reality and from the future in realms
such as street life, community and consumption. The design campaign,
co-produced by Urban China and Assbook, invites architects and designers to
renovate a small part of the Yuyuan Road community, which enjoys everlasting
reputation for its cultural and architecture beauty and value.
Thematic Forum
The thematic forum of 2017 Urban Design Festival
opened on October 26 at the Youth Palace of Changning district. Architects from
home and abroad, designers, urban study scholars, business and consumption
critics, as well as bookstore owners gathered at the forum to discuss a wide
range of issues, with the key topic of “the new retail space in city
renovation”.
Design Campaign at Yuyuan Road
The Urban Design Festival invited several designers to join the design campaign at Yuyuan Road. By creating micro renovation projects and art installations, the hundred-years-old block shines with modern sparkles.
