The architectural illustration of the Hengqin Innovation Hub project

Shanghai HuaDu Architecture and Urban Design Group (HDD), in partnership with French architecture firm Coldefy & Associes Architectes Urbanistes (CAAU) (www.caau.fr), has won a design contract of the Zhuhai International Scientific Center (widely known as the Hengqin Innovation Hub).

Covering a land area of some 227,000 sq m, the innovation hub is designed as a complex located at an artificial island on the Tianmu River in Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai, Guangdong province. The complex will accommodate office buildings, hotel, conference venue, as well as commercial and entertainment space.

The Hengqin Innovation Hub is expected to be the powerhouse of the innovative growth of Hengqin. Positioned as a platform for scientific innovation, the innovation hub caters to a range of functions, including entrepreneurship nurturing and headquarters for scientific and innovative institutions, serving sectors such as big data, incubation programmes, IT technologies and financial services. Meanwhile, the Hengqin Innovation Hub also offers a sustainable and livable environment for living and working.

The construction of Hengqin Innovation Hub is planned to be completed by the end of 2019, which will see the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to China. As the innovation development of Hengqin being closely entwined with the prosperity of Macao, the innovation hub will grow with the two cities as they march toward a bright future of innovative and intelligent economy.

About Hengqin New Area

Hengqin is one of the 146 islands of Zhuhai, close to both Hong Kong and Macao in location. In 2009, the State Council approved Hengqin as an experimental New Area with preferential policies, aiming to increase foreign trade and investment and strengthen the cooperation with Hong Kong and Macau. In 2011, the State Council granted Hengqin with more preferential treatments in legislation, taxation, customs service and many others, making it carry double benefits of an experimental New Area.

Hengqin New Area will prioritize tourism, leisure and health, business financial services, culture, science, education and high tech, and other industries, to be established as an area of open and leading culture and education, and a leisure and recreation base for international commercial services, as well as create a new carrier that promotes appropriate and diversified economic development in Macao.
