From “Construction of socialist new countryside” to
“New-type urbanization”, and from “One Village One Product” to “Characteristic
Town”, we have been unhappy with the state of the city, thus see the
countryside as a fortress to resist marketization, and treat the acquaintance
society and self-sufficient agricultural economy of the countryside as a magic
bullet. In such context, Urban China will reflect on the nationwide urban-rural
relationship and changes in economic geography, take lessons from the rural development
and respond to the subject of “How can we seek ‘self-salvation of the city’ in
the countryside”. The discussion will look into issues emerged in present rural
development from different views such as architecture and city planning,
economic geography and anthropology, which aims to provide more perspective in
different angles.
