The project locates within the High School Affiliated to Fudan University, to the east of Zhengxi Road and to the north of Guoquan Road. The building is mainly for classrooms, activity rooms and ancillary rooms, with a building footprint of 2969 square meters and a total floor area of 12728 square meters. The design creates multiple dynamic public spaces for shared activities and exhibition, while customizing for basic teaching programs. Facing the street, the design takes the school gate as a part of its elevation and develops a coherent interface towards the street, so as to create a dialogue between the building massing and the surrounding context. The elevation translates classical Greek order with a modern language. It uses red bricks that echo the school’s main building together with contrasting light-gray tile moldings to create a visual icon for the school. The façade toward the school uses a rhythmic light-gray metal louvre to bring in a vigorous spatial element.
